The countdown has begun. On July 20, 2026 — the opening day of the Monsoon Session — the Cockroach Janta Party will lead what is shaping up to be the largest opposition mobilisation since the farmers' Republic Day protest of 2021. Here is everything you need to know.

When and Where

The "Demand for PM's Resignation" (March to Parliament) will begin at 8:00 AM from Jantar Mantar, the protest site that has been the CJP's home for over 25 days. The march will proceed along Sansad Marg toward Parliament House, where the Monsoon Session convenes at 11:00 AM.

The timing is deliberate: the protesters intend to be at Parliament's gates as MPs arrive for the first day of the session.

The list of confirmed participants has grown far beyond the original student base:

The Route

The march will follow this route:

Security Arrangements

Delhi Police have deployed significant personnel around Parliament House and along Sansad Marg. Section 144 may be imposed in parts of Lutyens' Delhi. Barricades have been erected at multiple points.

The CJP has repeatedly emphasised the march will be completely peaceful. "We are not coming to break anything. We are coming to ask questions. The Constitution guarantees us this right," said Saurav Das.

What Happens If Police Stop the March

This is the critical question. The CJP has stated its intention to march peacefully. But if stopped by police, three scenarios are possible:

Scenario 1: Peaceful Sit-In If stopped before reaching Parliament, protesters may sit down wherever they are blocked — turning the blockade itself into a protest image.

Scenario 2: Leaders Allowed, Crowd Stopped Police may allow a small delegation of CJP and opposition leaders to proceed to Parliament while holding back the main crowd.

Scenario 3: Detentions Pre-dawn or morning detentions of key leaders are possible. The CJP has said it has contingency plans.

Sonam Wangchuk's Role

The biggest question: will Wangchuk participate? On Day 19 of his hunger strike, he has lost over 9 kg and is medically fragile. Sources close to the CJP say a decision will be made based on his health on the morning of July 20. If he attempts to march, it will be a security and medical challenge of the highest order.
