The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held its highly anticipated first press conference at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, drawing an overwhelming media presence. What began as a satirical internet movement is undeniably solidifying into a powerful force for youth advocacy.

An Overwhelming Media Presence

"When journalists show up in these numbers, it usually means a story is beginning not ending," noted supporter Hemant Rajaura. The packed room at the Constitution Club was a testament to the fact that the CJP's message is resonating far beyond social media echo chambers.

Announcing the Voices of the Movement

During the press conference, the CJP announced three official spokespersons who will represent the movement to the public and the media:

1. Saurav Das: The investigative journalist will take on the role of Chief Spokesperson. Das expressed his motivation, stating, "There comes a moment when the young of a nation realise they are angry because they were promised a future, and then mocked, moralised, and treated as disposables for asking where that future is." 2. Vijeta Dahiya: Political researcher, author, and filmmaker. 3. Ashutosh Ranka: Joined alongside Das and Dahiya to represent the youth.

Addressing the Absence of Women Spokespersons

Founder Abhijeet Dipke preemptively addressed questions regarding the all-male spokesperson lineup. He clarified that roles were offered to female team members, but they preferred to remain actively involved behind the scenes due to the severe online attacks, trolling, and threats the party members are currently receiving. "We respect their decision," Dipke stated, prioritizing the safety of their volunteers above optical representation.

Solidarity from Prominent Voices

The press conference coincided with a wave of high-profile support.

Actor and activist Prakash Raj announced his intention to join the upcoming protests, tweeting: "Trying to reach there on 6th to show my solidarity to the most relevant Cockroach movement... Requesting all young cockroaches to crawl there." Dipke publicly thanked him for extending his support.

Additionally, renowned innovator and activist Sonam Wangchuk reinforced his support, tweeting: "READY FOR 6th JUNE... Armed with nothing but PEACE & LOVE. Use of force if any, must not be from our side! Even if it means Jail..."

Pushing Back Against Narrative Control

The CJP also took the opportunity to address the attempts to discredit the movement. Quoting journalist Sohit Mishra, who pointed out the growing trend of labeling students and activists as "Pakistani" for merely questioning power, the party emphasized that such tactics are not critique, but a "campaign to silence dissent."
